Simon Cowell Ordered To Stay Away From Girlfriend’s Son

On Behalf of | Nov 29, 2013 | Child Custody

Maryland readers probably know Simon Cowell as the face of such reality television hits as American Idol and X-Factor. Lately, however, they may have seen him in the tabloid news because of his scandalous romance with socialite Lauren Silverman, who became pregnant with Cowell’s child while married to her ex-husband.

Silverman’s ex-husband filed for divorce back in July, when news that she was carrying Cowell’s child reached him, and the divorce was finalized earlier this month. The two had a prenuptial agreement in place, under which Silverman received $2 million. But other details of the settlement, namely the custody of their 7-year-old son, received a lot of scrutiny. “My top priority is protecting my 7-year-old son while working to resolve all outstanding issues with my wife,” said the child’s father.

The couple agreed to joint legal custody of the child, with one very interesting stipulation; Cowell is not allowed near their son until the year 2015. The court presumably considered the best interests of the child in issuing this order. It is common in custody disputes for the court to order the parties not to disparage one another or otherwise interfere with the child’s relationship with the other parent, and keeping Cowell from having any sort of relationship is likely aimed at protecting the boy’s relationship with his father.

Cowell and the boy’s mother are expecting a child together in a matter of months, so integrating the Silverman’s son into that family may be difficult under the court’s order. However, if Cowell violates the order, he will be ordered to pay $50,000, but more importantly, could jeopardize his girlfriend’s joint custody arrangement.
